Hope College PsychLabs: Visual Search Experiment
This experiment is designed to measure how long it takes people to search for a visual target and decide whether the target is present or absent.
On each trial you will see a group of small colored shapes—blue squares, blue triangles, orange triangles, and sometimes a single orange square, which is the visual "target."
Your task is simple: You must search for the orange square, and press a key to indicate whether the target orange square is present or absent.
Hope College PsychLabs: Visual Search Experiment
On half the trials the target -- the orange square -- will be present, as shown in these examples.
If the target is present, you should press the "M" key as quickly as possible to indicate a "match."
Hope College PsychLabs: Visual Search Experiment
On half the trials the target -- the orange square -- will be missing, as shown in these examples.
If the target is absent, you should press the "N" key as quickly as possible to indicate "no match."
To familiarize you with the task, we will begin with some Practice Trials.
